
The University of Bologna in Italy announced that after eight years of hard work, researchers at the school have developed a new semi-solid oxygen flow lithium battery NESSOX. With an energy density of up to 1MWh/t (i.e. 1000Wh/kg), the battery can be replaced in a few minutes just like "refueling" a car.
The University of Bologna in Italy announced that after eight years of hard work, its researchers have developed a new semi-solid oxygen flow lithium-ion battery NESSOX. With an energy density of up to 1MWh/t (i.e. 1000Wh/kg), it can be charged in a few minutes by replacing the liquid electrolyte inside the battery, just like "refueling" a car. The battery uses a new type of liquid electrolyte that can effectively suppress the formation of certain substances that cause battery failure and maintain stable battery performance. This new type of high-energy-density semi-solid lithium-oxygen battery shows excellent characteristics.
The energy density of this battery is much higher than that of current commercial battery products. It can be quickly charged by replacing the liquid electrolyte, or it can be charged using traditional power sources, which brings a new direction to the development of electric vehicle batteries. According to relevant information from the University of Bologna, the battery can support a car's driving range of more than 600 kilometers, and the current cost is 150€/kWh. At the same time, the battery also has great potential in other transportation, energy storage and other aspects.
Based on the excellent performance and application prospects of NESSOX, the project has won many awards such as the Italian National Innovation Award. The University of Bologna has specially established a company called Bettery and is looking for partners to raise funds to promote the application development of NESSOX.
