According to a report by US media Leftlanenews on May 4, Toyota Motor Corporation announced that the magnesium battery developed at a North American research institute has made breakthrough progress.

Scientists have discovered a new electrolyte that can react with magnesium anodes and is expected to become a replacement for lithium-ion batteries. Toyota said that magnesium has always been considered a safer and more efficient battery material, but its development has been limited due to the lack of suitable electrolytes. Toyota detailed this discovery in an article published in the international edition of the German Journal of Applied Chemistry.

Rana Mohtadi, Toyota's chief scientist and chemical engineer, said that they have successfully used hydrogen storage raw materials in magnesium batteries, and they are very excited about this progress.

However, most automakers believe breakthroughs in batteries won't revolutionize energy storage. Some promising technologies are still being researched, but only a few are ultimately ready for use.
