ROHM, a world-renowned semiconductor manufacturer, has developed the "BD70522GUL" step-down DC/DC converter*1) with a built-in MOSFET that achieves the world's smallest current consumption for battery-driven electronic devices such as mobile devices, wearable devices, and IoT devices.
"BD70522GUL" is an ultra-low-power power supply IC developed to realize the keyword "10-year drive with button batteries" in the IoT field. Under ROHM's vertically integrated production system, the world's smallest current consumption of 180nA (n=10) has been achieved using the original NanoEnergy technology that combines the advantages of three cutting-edge analog technologies: "circuit design", "layout" and "process". 9th power). This makes the battery driving time without load (when application standby) 1.4 times longer than ordinary products※, helping electronic devices powered by button batteries such as CR2025 to run longer. In addition, it achieves power conversion efficiency of more than 90% in the industry's widest range (10μA ~ 500mA, from light load to maximum load).
Samples of this product have been on sale since October 2017 (sample price is 300 yen/piece: tax excluded), and it is planned to temporarily enter mass production with a monthly production capacity of 1 million units starting in March 2018. The production base for the early-stage process is ROHM Hamamatsu Co., Ltd. (Hamamatsu City, Japan), and the production base for the later-stage process is ROHMApollo Co., Ltd. (Yukuhashi City, Japan). In addition, at the same time as this news is released, the online sales of this product "BD70522GUL" and the evaluation board "BD70522GUL-EVK-101" equipped with this product will also start simultaneously. Users can purchase them from two online sales platforms, AMEYA360 and RightIC.
In the future, ROHM will continue to develop high-performance, high-reliability products that utilize the advantages of simulation technology to contribute to energy conservation in the entire society.
In recent years, battery-powered electronic devices such as mobile devices such as smartphones, wearable devices, and IoT devices have rapidly become popular. Furthermore, in order to increase product design flexibility and secure space for configuring new functions, the power consumption of the components mounted on these products is required to be reduced to the minimum to achieve miniaturization and extend battery life.
ROHM has been committed to developing power ICs that meet market needs by leveraging its analog design technology and process technology advantages in power supply systems, as well as taking advantage of its vertically integrated production system. This time, we took advantage of these advantages again and developed a power IC equipped with ultra-low current consumption technology "NanoEnergy".
The new product "BD70522GUL" is an ultra-low power consumption step-down power supply IC developed with the goal of "10-year drive with button batteries", a keyword in the IoT market. The product has the following features, which are very helpful for long-term operation of equipment equipped with storage batteries and small batteries.
1. Using NanoEnergy technology to achieve the world’s smallest current consumption of 180nA
Ultra-low current consumption technology "NanoEnergy" was born by leveraging ROHM's analog technology advantages in low current consumption such as newly developed unique control circuits, optimal analog component layout of power supply ICs, and BiCDMOS with a power system process of 0.35μm. The world's smallest current consumption is 180nA.
Achieving the world's lowest current consumption enables battery driving time to be extended by 1.4 times compared to conventional products when there is no load (application standby).
2. Achieve high efficiency over a wider load current range
It has a built-in low-loss MOSFET and is equipped with the SeamlessSwitchingModeControl (SSMC) function that automatically and seamlessly switches the load mode according to the load current. It achieves more than 90% of the DC/DC converter with a current consumption of less than 1μA in the industry's widest range (10μA ~ 500mA). Power conversion efficiency.
Achieving high-efficiency power conversion in different states of many electronic devices and applications helps extend battery driving time.
NanoEnergy is an ultra-low current consumption technology achieved under ROHM's vertically integrated production system by integrating the advantages of three cutting-edge analog technologies: "circuit design", "layout" and "process". It is useful for long-term operation of electronic devices powered by storage batteries or small batteries, such as mobile devices, wearable devices, and IoT devices.
